International recognition for Citycare’s 14th health centre

The latest health centre to be added to Citycare’s growing portfolio was recently shortlisted for an international award.

Hailed as a beacon of future primary care services, the £8million West Hull Health Hub integrates services under one roof within the community, with the aim of limiting the need for hospital admission or care.

Replacing the outdated Springhead Medical Centre, the pioneering health hub has already benefited thousands of patients since it opened its doors in December 2021.

The West Hull Health Hub was celebrated on the international stage for a second time, having been shortlisted for the Best Healthcare Project in the prestigious Partnership Awards 2022, which recognise elite projects, companies, individuals, partnerships, and providers across the globe.

The category was open to all Public Private Partnership (PPP) projects, and the West Hull Health Hub was one of only two UK entries shortlisted for the award this May.

Citycare Chief Executive, Tim Wigglesworth said:

“West Hull Health Hub is the start of a new era and builds on the estate Citycare already has in Hull.

“There is a big push for healthcare to be delivered within communities and pulled away from hospital-based settings and this new building addresses that, providing a completely fresh start for Modality. We already see it making such a difference to both staff and patients.

“To be shortlisted in the Partnership Awards again is a huge achievement for all involved, and we’re extremely proud to be recognised alongside remarkable global projects.”

The judging panel included more than 30 industry professionals representing both the public and private sector and they were selected based on their expertise, experience, and integrity in the PPP market.

The awards took place on Thursday 19 May at The London Hilton, bringing together senior representatives from all facets of the PPP industry to celebrate the outstanding partnerships and projects made by teams and organisations.

Since then, West Hull Health Hub has also been shortlisted for the Best Healthcare Development in the Building Better Healthcare Awards, as well as the Public-Private Collaboration of the year in the Insider Media Yorkshire Property Awards. The award ceremonies will be taking place later in the year.

The West Hull Health Hub adds to Citycare’s existing portfolio of 13 other state-of-the-art health centres delivered across the city in partnership with the former NHS Hull Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) and primary care providers.

The new health hub is part of Modality Partnership Hull Division which has a total of more than 60,000 patients across four sites in the city. Modality Partnership also works in collaboration with four other practices in Hull as part of a Primary Care Network (PCN).

Dr Bushra Ali, GP and Partner at Modality Partnership and member of the NHS Hull CCG Board, said:

“Reaching the point where West Hull Health Hub is finally open after what has been many years in the planning and to see it rise from the ground and take shape over the past year has been incredible.

“It has made such a difference to patients and clinicians, providing greater access to existing and improved health services, increased appointments and more flexibility and space in a fit-for-purpose environment.

“We need to have the facilities to adapt and be flexible, particularly in light of the Covid-19 pandemic, and this much-needed facility will benefit thousands of patients in west Hull.

“Thank you to NHS Hull CCG and Citycare for their unwavering vision to make this a reality.”
